7th November – Annual Props Auction

The club’s last meeting was the annual auction of props, effects, books and DVDs where our members have a great opportunity to sell unwanted items and at the same time pick up some fabulous bargains at silly prices.

Before the main business of the evening got underway, Adrian introduced Marcus who wanted to demonstrate his new snow storm effect which went off with a huge bang scattering confetti over the audience. Next we welcomed Don Simpson officially back to the club – Don had previously been both a member and past President, so it’s great to see him back with Southend after too many years away!

Congratulations were given to Oliver for his success in the National J Day competition where he beat 5 other finalists to become British Junior close-up champion using the same act he’d won our junior competition with. Well done Ollie!!

So on to the auction, and with 128 lots to get through it was a fairly brisk pace for Adrian and Leon to follow with help from various sellers to explain what they were offering. In the end 10 members sold items and 20 members bought new treasures - 94 lots between them! £585 changed hands on the night which means that the club funds received a welcome boost of £58 as commission on the sales.

Many thanks to all our sellers and buyers for their enthusiasm at what turned out to be a late night that finally ended just after 11.00!!
