Club Shows
6th March - St Cedd's School, New London Road, Chelmsford
The club’s last show was held at St Cedd’s School in Chelmsford. With a packed audience and a good stage for us to work from, the evening was a huge success enjoyed by everyone who attended and we attracted many favourable comments from various members of the audience.
Our close-uppers for the evening included Mick, Wally, Dean, Adrian, Leon, Ray, Oliver, James G, Alan and Robbie (apologies to anyone I might have missed!) who all went out four times to perform at various tables. As always, by the end of the close up session the audience were well and truly warmed up and ready for more – but first they took a break for a fish and chip supper which we were also invited to join in with.
After the raffle it was on with the stage show. James Gilroy was first on and presented his act using appearing giant wand, a mirror box production of a toy rabbit, and of course finishing with his sword box illusion. Through no fault of his own, the illusion had one or two hiccups (a new assistant who hadn’t performed on stage with him before) but he received great applause from a sympathetic audience. Well done James!
Robert Dean was next and he performed an effect where a randomly selected card turned out to be the only reversed card in another sealed pack held by an audience member. Following up with a dice mind reading effect, and Casino Royale, Dean left the audience astounded.
Next came Robbie who presented his take on the Vanishing Bandanna – always a crowd pleaser and no exception this time. One audience member commented on Robbie’s stage presence at the end of the show so well done Robbie!
Adrian finished the show, which was compered by Wally, with some effects from his children’s act. Starting with mutilated parasol, he went on to present a funny funnel routine and his milk pitcher effect, both of which used various volunteer youngsters from the audience who all played their part brilliantly, getting some great laughs from the audience.
In the end another very successful show and huge thanks go to all who helped either by setting up or performing.
