6th June - Club Night

Our last meeting was one of our ever popular club nights where members have the opportunity to share ideas and tricks with each other and at the same time are able to try out new acts and ideas on a willing audience, in order to seek advice about possible improvements.

With a good attendance and some new faces appearing as guests, Adrian began the evening by going through the parish notices, inviting Rick to outline the current shows position – more on these subjects elsewhere in the newsletter.

Tony Draper had come to the meeting prepared to present his audition piece, and unusually, for the first time I can remember, Tony auditioned for membership with a stage presentation. Including a vanishing silk routine, a Zombie effect and a book test prediction, Tony’s performance was spot on with an excellent selection of music to perform to.

He received many congratulations from members, and has hereby passed his audition, so will be presented with his membership certificate, badge and card at the next meeting. Well done Tony, it’s lovely to have you with us.

Next up was Oliver, who had requested an opportunity to try out a new routine on the club, which included wrist chopper and the multiplying bottles effect made famous by the likes of Ken Brooke and Tommy Cooper. A good start with these props, and Oliver received a well deserved round of applause and some ideas for him to think about as well. Exactly what club nights should be like!

After that the evening was a pleasant event with members convening in small groups to discuss all things magical.

We welcomed Marcus and Lee-Ann to their first meeting. Marcus, who is a member at Ilford Magical Society, showed us his balloon inflating invention which many people were quite taken with. And Lee-Ann is a professional magicienne from Thailand, who, with her husband, has recently moved to the UK and is now hoping to re-start her career. Looking at her photo album, she is clearly very talented and was well known in magic circles in Thailand, having performed regular shows and appeared in TV commercials and so on. We welcome them both and hope to see them again in the future.

In the end it was a great evening had by all!
