5th December - Annual Christmas Fun Night

The club’s last meeting was our annual bout of fun and games at the Christmas Fun Night. As usual, the committee got together to design a series of devious quiz rounds and activities for people to get involved in. And what a night it was, with 17 members in attendance along with 14 family members and 14 guests. It was so busy we had to ship in extra seats from the restaurant downstairs!

In the end we had four fairly large teams battling it out for the quiz night champion title for 2010, who called themselves Season’s Greetings, the Mulled Whiners, Mag 7 plus (short for the Magnificent Seven plus Friends!), and the Y Factor. Very inventive!!

So the evening kicked off with all sorts of games and quizzes for people to get involved in. Marathon rounds included a difficult set of film title anagrams to sort out, a set of 60 advertising slogans to identify, some famous faces to name and some colour themed questions to sort out. On top of that there were quiz rounds including TV themes, a music intros round, and a magic themed quiz. And of course we also had the usual team activities to complete including bagatelle, shut the box, drop the pencil into the hole, and guess the crisp flavours.

As usual, people had brought their own drinks, crisps and nibbles with them (including some magnificent cup cakes made by Tracy!) and by the end of the evening everyone was well and truly quizzed out. It was a really enjoyable event at which everyone seemed to have a good time. The raffle earned £37 for our club funds and several prizes were handed out to the lucky winners.

In the end, once all the scores had been added up, the winning team was the Mulled Whiners who claimed victory by just one point!! The team was made up of Adrian’s family and friends and this was the third time in succession that they’ve won the quiz night, so next year we must try and find a team to beat them!!

Thanks to everyone for coming along to the quiz night – it was great fun and the committee hopes you enjoyed it as much as we did.

In case anyone needs some quiz materials for their own use, Adrian has posted some of the rounds along with answers into the members’ area of the website. Enjoy!!
