On 3rd January we held our annual auction of props and books etc – the meeting had been rescheduled from November due to various committee members being unavailable to run the auction on the originally planned date.
The evening was well attended with a wide variety of items going up for sale from a number of members – everything from a full ‘Multum in Parvo’ set and some really nice cups and balls sets, through to a bag of thumb tips, some hanks of magicians rope, and even a talking hammer! Of course we also had some excellent DVDs and books in the sale as well, including a number of Abra bundles. How long will it be before these become real collectors’ items now that Abra is no longer published?
Bidding was enthusiastic and brisk with a total of nearly 100 items going under the hammer (not the talking one thankfully!), auctioned by Rick and Adrian who formed a double act for the evening.
In the end, with 19 members, 7 family members and 3 guests in attendance, a total of £518 was raised from the sale for our members, and as the club charges 10% of the proceeds as commission for club funds, this means that the whole club benefits from the auction to the tune of £51.
Thanks to everyone who attended – especially to those who put items up for sale or bid on them. The auction is always a lot of fun, and there are always some excellent bargains to be had at silly prices; and this year was no exception.
Hopefully we’ll see some of the purchases used in our various forthcoming competitions this year!
Additionally at the meeting Oliver Ward took his membership audition. It was an accomplished performance, so well done to Ollie who we’ll welcome officially to the club at the next meeting with the presentation of his certificate, badge and membership card.
