28th October - Annual Presentation Dinner

On 28th October, the club held its annual awards dinner at the Essex Barn in Wickford. With nearly 70 members and guests in attendance it was a superb evening which we hope you enjoyed if you were able to attend. As usual a delicious and generous three course meal was served followed by coffee. During the meal a number of our members performed impromptu close up magic – thanks to those who took the opportunity, it really helped the evening to flow smoothly.

Next it was on with the awards, and hearty congratulations go to all our winners:

Clubman of the Year - James Gilroy

Best Club Supporter - Kim Rogers

Most Promising Newcomer - Tracy Wise

Senior Stage Competition - Mick Geraghty

Junior Stage Competition - Robbie Wood

Senior Close-Up Competition - Adrian Fox

Junior Close-Up Competition - James Gilroy

Following the presentations, it was on with the cabaret, provided this year by the hilarious Matt Edwards who combined magic with comedy ventriloquism. If you can imagine a cross between Joe Pasquale and Lee Evans that pretty much describes Matt. His act went down extremely well with our audience and he received a long and deserved ovation at the end. Matt was also to be seen at the close of the show passing on some close-up tips and effects to some of our members. He’s a really nice guy, and if you ever get a chance to see him perform, take the opportunity – you won’t be disappointed. Matt also ended up getting involved in our raffle........

It was the funniest part of the whole evening. While Wally tried to conduct the raffle, Matt jumped in to ‘help him out’, causing confusion, hilarity and total mayhem as a result. How people ended up with the right prizes I will never know, but it was just one of the most hilarious things to watch, and all impromptu. Well done to Wally for getting through it in one piece!
