Barrie’s Magic were due to come and provide a dealer dem for us at the last meeting on 5th July, but unfortunately Barrie had made a mistake with his bookings diary and had to attend a wedding instead, so we were left without a dealer on the night. With short notice and not much time to plan anything else, after the parish notices from Adrian, the evening became a club night with a number of small groups working together to share ideas and techniques. It was a meeting with a low number of attendees (probably due to the cancelled dealer dem and the holiday season) but still an enjoyable night was had by all. Following the BBC Essex broadcast, an ex magician called Bill Murray (not THE Bill Murray!) decided to come along as a guest and donate some close up items and magazines to the club for distribution to our juniors as a way of encouraging them. These were gratefully accepted, and we’ll make sure that anything useful is passed on to our juniors ASAP. A really nice gesture! In the meantime we’re trying to re-book Barrie for a different meeting – if he’s available for August we’ll ask him to attend as this was due to be a club night anyway, but we won’t know for sure whether this will be possible or not until later in the month.
STOP PRESS: We’ve now heard that Barrie cannot make our August meeting, so we’ve now booked him for our July meeting 2010.
