6th September - Lecture - Dave Forrest

On the 6th September, the long awaited David Forrest lecture took place in front of  21 members,   5 family members and 4 guests. Following the parish notices from Adrian, David demonstrated his thinking on card magic with a range of interesting effects, many of which were for sale in DVD accompanied packages. He started out by explaining his philosophy that because of their preconceived ideas of what magicians are meant to be like, spectators need to be gently led to the more amazing effects with a couple of almost jokey routines first.

He went on illustrate his ideas with a series of card routines, starting out with a colour change effects utilising the Erdnase method. Also included in the lecture were some great ideas and observations, plus a number of very effective effects such as: ‘Encased’, a routine which involved the appearance of a spectator’s signed card between two jokers in an otherwise empty card case; ‘Colour Burn’, a very visual card colour change; ‘Pseudo Memory’, where he apparently memorised the order of the entire deck in less than 20 seconds; and ‘Loophole’ (a Cameron Francis effect), where a signed card magically appeared through a hole cut in the side of a card case – as David said, the perfect ending to an ambitious card routine.

The lecture clearly went down very well with our members, and there were plenty of people queuing at David’s sales table by the end of the evening to snap up his various tricks and lecture notes.
