Club Show - 3rd July 2009 - Rayleigh British Legion

Close-uppers Wally, Stuart, Dean, Ray, Mick, Alan, Leon, Mike, James and Robbie turned out for our repeat booking at Rayleigh British Legion. Unfortunately due to clashing with holidays and Wimbledon coverage, the audience number was well down on the previous year but
nevertheless, the 42 who did turn up, plus 12 of our 'Camp Followers’ seated at ten tables provided us with a very appreciative audience. As in the previous year we all felt the audience's enthusiasm and incredulities at our efforts. Following a half hour interval, with Wally acting as Compere, Stuart, James and Dean performed their acts with great aplomb, and the only slight but highly amusing mishap was when the cover of James's Mutilated Parasol lodged itself on the Stage Lights l2 feet above the floor; Stuart rushed on with a chair and a stick and managed to remove it before it burst into flames. Needless to say James continued his act in a very professional way with appropriate ad-libs. Over f30 was raised for the Club's Poppy Appeal with Wally providing a large sealed sweet jar filled with corks for a £l per guess of the number challenge. The bottle of wine prize was won by one of the Legion's war veterans.
A very enjoyable evening with the Club Committee disappointed that only a small number of the Club's 1500 members had turned up for an excellent show.
