Annual Club Presentation Dinner - Friday 23rd October

Our annual presentation dinner took place on Friday 23rd October and was sold out some weeks before the date – a first in our dinner history!

Held at the excellent Essex Barn in Wickford for the second year running, our members and guests were treated to an excellent three course dinner, with plenty of choice from a varied menu. As last year was a little cramped in terms of breathing space, we decided to restrict ticket sales a little this year so that everyone had more room to move, and the strategy seemed to work really well; it certainly seemed a bit roomier this time round! Apologies to anyone who wanted to come but couldn’t obtain a ticket. We are looking at the option of a slightly larger venue next year, but it has to be said that the ‘on the night’ menu choices for our guests does make life a lot easier for those organising the event!

Thanks go to any members who performed close up magic for our guests at the tables – it’s a nice touch and very impromptu.

Following the meal, the trophies were awarded to our competition winners, and congratulations go to:
Dean Cadywould                  Senior Stage winner
Adrian Fox                          Senior Close Up winner
James Holdsworth                Junior Stage winner
Robbie Wood                       Junior Close Up winner
Robbie Wood                       Most Promising Newcomer award (this includes a £60 cheque to be spent on magical props which is donated by an anonymous club member – thank you so much for your continued sponsorship of this – you know who you are!)
Leon Rye                            Clubman of the Year
Audrey Heddon                    Best non-magical club supporter

Cabaret was supplied by our old friend Mark Worgan, whose act was split evenly between comedy and magic. Considering he was probably jet lagged and had just come from a wedding gig some miles away, he did well, and laughter was heard throughout his performance. It seems that our dinner audiences are usually hard to please – cabaret artistes have to work hard to get a reaction for some reason, so Mark did well!

Also at the dinner, our new polo shirts were presented to those members who have helped out at club shows. Their efforts help to keep the club funded, so a huge vote of thanks is due to them.
With music to close the evening, everyone went away full and happy! It was a superb evening and we’re looking forward to next year’s dinner already!
