18th September - Club Show - Southend Amnesty Group

On Friday 18th September, the club put on a show for Amnesty International at the Ashingdon Community Centre. With a packed hall, the enthusiastic audience enjoyed close up performances from Wally, James, Rob, Stuart B, Alan, Mike, Ray, Robbie and Adrian who visited 5 tables each.

This was the first outing for our new club banners which looked really good, flanking our curtains on the stage. After a short interval, the stage show went off without a hitch. Wally performed Kovari’s Mental Epic followed by Vanishing Bandanna and his rainbow silks effect, finishing with a successful performance of his beer cans stunt (well done Wally!). Adrian was up next with Mutilated Parasol, his Da Vinci Code prediction and his ‘Adrian’s Bar’ routine where he consumes large quantities of ‘alcoholic’ drinks, while his unsuspecting helper only gets orange juice. Finally, James ‘Magic’ Holdsworth took to the stage to perform several of his routines including the snake basket, and a spectator shooting the balloon (with a banana). On this occasion the spectator ended up taking a shot from outside the hall having been sent out of the door by James!
Following a raffle, the evening cames to a close with loads of really nice comments from people who had obviously enjoyed the show. One lady commented that she had never been to a magic show before but had been astounded by what she had seen, and she took a business card with a promise to be in touch about a booking at some point. Thanks to everyone who took part in what turned out to be a very successful evening.
This was our last show for 2009, so stand by; hopefully we'll have some news about show bookings for 2010 before too long.
