5th October - Annual Senior and Junior Close Up Competition
It doesn't seem like a year ago, but here we are with the annual close-up competition again, so have your new routines and effects ready to go!
As always, the juniors will be battling it out for the Wilf Dent Memorial Trophy; and the seniors for the honour of having their name added to the Robert Ferro Cup. Daniel Brookes won the senior competition last year at his first attempt, and Ryan Sholem was victorious in the junior contest, so this year we're hoping for a well contested competition that will attract some good standards. Don't worry if you feel nervous about taking part - the competition is open to everyone of all abilities, and most of the points are awarded by non-magician judges who are looking for entertainment value first and foremost.
A little reminder of the rules is in order:
Your act should be between 8 and 12 minutes long. Each contestant
will perform at a minimum of 3 tables and will be scored by 3
independent judges, earning up to 10 marks for appearance, 10 for
magical ability, 20 for entertainment value and 10 for presentation.
The maximum score is therefore 50 points from each judge (150 points
in total) and the trophies will be awarded to the highest scorers.
As with all our competitions, it is a rule that more than one contestant
must enter for each trophy, otherwise, in the spirit of competition and
trying to improve standards, it cannot be awarded.
Non members are very welcome at this meeting - in fact you're
encouraged to bring along as many guests as you can to help
swell the audience numbers.
Look forward to seeing you there.
STOP PRESS - don't forget that we'll be taking studio style photos of
members who perform at our club shows on this evening. If you're one of
our regular show performers, please come along with your performance
clothes and an idea of what you'd like to be doing in your photo.
