5th October - Annual Senior and Junior Close Up Competition

The October meeting saw our seniors go head to head for the honour of winning the annual Close-Up competition, along with the Robert Ferro trophy. Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding concerning one of our junior member's age (we thought Ryan was already 16 - sorry Ryan) the junior contest didn't go ahead as planned, but will now be held at the next meeting instead with Ryan and James Holdsworth taking part. They will be battling it out for the Wilf Dent Memorial Trophy.

The senior contest was a well fought competition between Lewis Clifton, Leon Rye, Ray Simkins, Daniel Brookes, Richard Graham and Rob Newson. Our audience was kept entertained throughout with some high standards displayed and in the end it was a close thing. Our three judges had a difficult time with each contestant performing at 3 tables, scoring marks for appearance, magical ability, entertainment value and presentation.

At the end of the evening, once the marks had been added up, Lewis Clifton came third, Richard Graham second, and the winner for 2008 was Daniel Brookes for the second year running - he gets the task of keeping the trophy clean for another year!. Well done Daniel - and well done to all the other contestants for providing such an excellent evening's entertainment.
