6th April - Annual AGM and Video Night

The April meeting was the club's 31st Annual General Meeting. Before the official business, Adrian inducted three new members by presenting them with their membership badges and certificates. Welcome to James Holdsworth, Jonah Ripley and Robert Newson who all became full members - nice to have you with us, here's hoping you have a long and enjoyable membership!

So on to the business, and Dean (Vice President and lectures), Richard (Secretary and shows), Wally (Treasurer) and Adrian (President) all read their end of year reports in front of the membership. All agreed it had been a very productive year, especially in terms of the financial situation where a loss last year had been turned into a healthy profit this year. This was largely due to the increased number of shows and also to the new £1 per meeting entrance fee that had been introduced after last year's AGM.

Following the reports, the committee formally stood down from office, but as all were standing for re-election, and with no oither nominations for any of the posts, the committee as a whole were unanimously re-elected for another year.

It was announced that there were no plans to increase membership fees for the coming year; also that no nominations had been received from the membership for any honorary life memberships to be awarded. The next annual dinner was discussed with various members expressing opinions about the formality of the evening and what they would like to see in terms of this year's dinner arrangements. It was agreed that a formal sit down meal was preferred, and that a ticket price of up to £25 per head was acceptable. The committee agreed to pursue venues and arrange a suitable evening again this year.

As the AGM business didn't take up the whole evening, after the formal business was over, Richard, who had kindly brought along some DVD playback equipment, started to host a video evening. Although we were able to play back a couple of clips, due to technical problems it was not possible to continue as planned, so with several members staying on to talk and show magic, the evening was brought to a slightly earlier close than planned.
