4th May 2008 - Lecture by Terry Machin

After a year or two we finally managed to get one of our busiest professional members to come along and lecture for us. Terry Machin has been a full time corporate, close up and children's magician for nearly 30 years, and his experience was obvious from the moment he started. Performing some really commercial card magic with some other effects that he is best known for, Terry passed on plenty of his ideas in a fresh, lively and entertaining manner.

The production of a pear and potato under his hat fooled many, and with several card effects such as a simple bottom deal poker demonstration; signed folded card to tin; ambitious card; a diary prediction effect; and a lovely paper to banknote effect for which he passed out free notes, there was something for everyone in the lecture. Other effects included the use of a clock force combined with a time machine watch to get over the delay which is inherant in the use of the watch; and a nice take on the spread force. There was also a nice signed card effect which culminated in 2 spectators' signatures appearing on opposite sides of the same card.

Terry went on to pass on several tips - the sparing use of car wax on the backs of cards in a brainwave deck to make it spread more easily for example - and these were all appreciated and taken on board.

Terry is a very lively entertainer who specialises in strong simple but commercial magic - it's no surprise he's always so busy.
